Review and Swatches: Maybelline Color Whisper Lipstick

Hi, lovelies!

I hope you're having a wonderful Sunday! I am - I slept in after a short night out for my fellah's DJ night at the Moonrise Hotel and visiting with my darling friends Skylar, Mel, and Janet. This afternoon, my family and I attended the 6th ALIVE Magazine Annual Top Chef STL, presented by Shock Top. You'll see a quick post recapping this event soon!

If you know me at all, you'll know I have a serious problem with lip products. As in, I have a bazillion. That is *almost* an exaggeration. I try to wear them all as often as possible, but there are just too many! I've been better lately about purchasing more "wearable" colors for an everyday use. I sometimes buy things because I think they're cool or I'm just really curious about them, rather than base it on how often I will use said things.

With this Maybelline Color Whisper Lipstick, I find a good, everyday lip color that works for my fair(ish) skin. The funny thing is that the name does not truly reflect the tone of the product itself, so that made me think it might be a good idea to do a review! iPhone photos will have to suffice, I hope you don't mind!

The color I picked up a few weeks ago is "Who Wore It Red-er?" Okay, doesn't that sound like it should be a red? Even by looking at just the product itself, you can tell that this is not a true red. It's clearly a berry. Once applied to the lips, it's a berry stained red. The photo below was taken in my car on my lunch break one day about 2pm on a sunny day. Awkward selfie award goes to...

For a better color idea, I swatched the product on my arm in natural light, without direct sunlight. Below you can see that the color leans more pink than red.

Below: Indoor, incandescent light, no filter. It kinda looks cool at that angle next to my lovely flat iron burn scar, right?

One thing I do really love about this product is its staying ability. It fades over time, but leaves a pretty stain behind without looking completely not purposeful. Below, you can see what happens when you try to wipe the color away with a dry tissue.

Overall, I really like this lipstick! It has great coverage and feels good on my lips. As far as opacity goes, it's pigmented but not overwhelmingly so. It gives just the right amount of "I care about my appearance today and I chose this pretty hue to reflect that" without turning into "Here, I really tried today, can't you tell?"

I like that the product stick itself comes already slightly rounded at the tip. I feel like this makes it easier to apply, just for my personal experience. I have a hard time, especially with bigger, defined lips, to use lipsticks with flat tips.

I think I might check out the color "Made-It Mauve" next. What do you think? Would you rock an unexpected berry lip? Or would you be upset when you thought you were getting a red?

I purchased this product with my own money. It was not given to me for review. The opinions are my own.
