Tied Waists and Printed Skirts

Sometimes semi-creepy things happen while shooting with my photographer and friend, Miles. He has started bringing along his friend Lucas to help with shoots, and the above photo proves that BTS (Behind The Scenes) images can be just as fun as the final outfit shots!

I don't have many "band shirts," mostly because when you see bands perform, you would always have to plan on spending an additional $$$ on merchandise. I think my arsenal of band shirts is limited to the above and newly thrifted Foster the People, mewithoutyou, Wolf Parade, and Fever Ray. My Fever Ray shirt is a personal clothing item favorite. I took a bus solo to Chicago to see her perform and it was one of the most amazing shows I've ever seen/nights of my life.

I'd love to start expanding my band shirt collection, but I have other things to spend money on at the moment. Also, I spent so much of my time growing up in T-shirts and jeans that sometimes a T-shirt feels like a cop-out to me. Like, "Jill, you can do better with this outfit!" So, my easiest way to play with that is to pair this Foster the People shirt with a wacky skirt and call it good.

The skirt was a thrift store find as well, and I didn't realize that it had pockets until the day we took these photos! Pockets in skirts and dresses are always a great idea. The shoes I'm wearing were a super sale find at Forever 21 a few weeks ago. It took a minute to break them in, but they're quite comfortable now, especially because of the giant platform.

I know a lot of my friends have band shirts in their closets. Which is your most prized and why?
