Recent Makeup Favorites: Wings 'n Things
Good afternoon, lovelies!
I am on the plane home from NYFW, and I have so much to share with you! I'm downloading all my photos from my camera at the moment and I can't wait to see them on a computer screen and not my Canon DSLR's little viewer. I'm very excited about some of the shots I captured at a few shows - particularly Michael Costello and Maria Ke Fisherman. I really wanted to be able to take my own photos for my first NYFW experience, rather than rip them from a professional photographer's site. That is all well and good, but I personally prefer to use as much of my own work as possible!
Earlier this week I shared a new outfit post with you. Something else I wanted to share was some information about my makeup in that post! I have some favorites that I wore that day, and I figured you might like to hear a few details.
If you peeped my NYFW Beauty Basics post, you'll have actually heard a bit about what I'm loving these days! For my foundation, I've been using Bare Minerals' bareSkin® Pure Brightening Serum Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 20. I have the shade Bare Natural, which is actually just slightly too dark for my face. I don't mind this, though, because I feel like that helps me not look so washed out in photographs. Plus, I always dust a fair-shade powder on top, anyway, so that helps cancel out darkness. The powder I've been using lately is Neutrogena's Healthy Skin Pressed Powder in the color Fair. I like it because it doesn't seem to act "cakey" on my face. The little applicator it comes with is a little poof instead, not a sponge, which I use to pat the powder on just to kill shine on my T-Zone.
For cheeks, I've been loving layers a shimmery bronzer with blush. I have seen some bloggers talk about preferring matte for summer, and I do use a matte bronzer often, but I like the sheen a shimmer bronzer gives my face. The bronzer I have is a quad product and has four shimmery shades in it. The label is worn off and I peeled off the stickers so I have no clue what the brand is! I searched around on Ulta's site and did not see it. So, if I rediscover what the brand is, I'll update this post. The two darker ones I swirl together and use for light contouring, and I use the two lighter shades as highlight on the tops of my cheeks.

The blush I'm wearing is a Clinique blush that I've had for what seems like forever... doesn't makeup expire? Oh well! I keep it clean and out of heat and sun, so I feel like as long as I clean my brushes regularly everything will be a-ok. The Soft-Pressed Powder Blusher is a great size, and I don't mind using the brush to lightly swipe the color on. I'm wearing the color Mocha Pink. For me, it gives just enough pink tone to liven up my face.
I fill my brows in with a mixture of eyeshadows from NYX called Escape with Rico from their Love in Rio eyeshadow palette collections. I clearly don't use the shimmer shade in my eyebrows! But, I do mix the two left ones to fill in my brows because they're a little sparse on the outer corners. I then swipe through a coat of Benefit's gimme brow in medium/deep. So, a lot of people seem to have great luck getting perfect brows with JUST gimme brow, but I definitely still need to fill in the empty spots. It does a good job of adding some depth to my brows and keeping the little hairs in place, but it doesn't actually help color in empty spots for me.
My eyes have a pretty simple product combination. I'm an everyday user of Urban Decay's Eyeshadow Primer Potion in the original, basic formula. On top of that I patted the lighter brown color from the afore-mentioned Escape with Rico palette. The eyeliner I have on is Kat Von D's Tattoo Liner in Trooper. This stuff has become my eyeliner obsession. It really doesn't budge unless I'm having a seriously problematic watery eye day, like yesterday in NYC due to allergies. I have fallen asleep after a night out and been able to claim "I woke up like dis" the next morning with this eyeliner still looking fab. The name Trooper is quite accurate. I am unskilled at doing a small, basic cateye shape for some reason, and I think struggle with it because I have sort of hooded eyes. So I end up with these fierce wings often instead.
Let's talk about my newest lip product addiction. Rimmer's Show Off Lip Lacquer is pretty amazing. It applies like a lip gloss but has some serious color payoff. It smells a little weird - it reminds me vaguely of the Botanical Garden somehow. I picked up a few colors during a BOGO sale at Ulta, and I'm loving them. I have Galaxy, Celestial, Comet, and Big Bang. The color I'm wearing in the above photographs is Comet. It's a great basic "My Lips But Better" shade for me. They apply so smoothly that I have been wearing them almost every single day. I don't find them to be drying at all, but I always apply lip balm first. The applicator is a slightly fuzzy doe foot shape with a small hollow in the center that holds product inside. I haven't seen this before in any products I've used, and I really enjoy it. I don't have to keep dipping back into the tube to grab more to apply.
Do you use any of the products? What kind of beauty product are you addicted to?
