Coming up: GENT! Menswear Showcase
With the few Saint Louis Fashion Week seasons that I have attended, I have noticed that we don't often see an emphasis on menswear. The design world is mainly aimed at women's clothing. Things could be looking up for the style-savvy men, however! I spied an article recently that's rumoring a Men's Fashion Week may be coming to New York. I would totally attend those shows and drool over the impeccably-dressed men that I would never seen in Saint Louis (c'mon, Midwestern fellahs, step up your game!).
Saint Louis, in fact, might just be beating New York at its own fashion game, if I dare say it. Coming up later this month is GENT!, Saint Louis' first all-menswear fashion show in Saint Louis, specifically focusing on independent designers. Created by Brainchild Events, GENT! will take place at Mungenast Lexus on Manchester Road on February 26th. What a swanky place to have a fashion presentation, right? Speaking of swanky, there will even be a raffle for a fancy car detailing job from Mungenast, valued at about $300. I wouldn't mind winning that for my little Scarlet (she's a trooper of a Ford Escort). Also, a portion of the proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the Humane Society of Missouri, which is close to my heart. Both dogs in my life have been adopted from there. My current beautiful pitbull baby, Cher, was a street dog before the Humane Society picked her up and I discovered her at the shelter. I fell in love with her and I'm glad she's mine!
Let's talk about the designers a bit! Get to know who will be showing at the event:
- St. Louis Native that has had runway shows in LA, St. Louis, Cincinnati, Omaha and Phoenix Fashion Week. He was also featured on America's Next Top Model. Paul is a contemporary menswear designer brand sold in higher-end retailers around the world.
– Christian is a Kansas City emerging designer that specializes in men’s custom pieces. He has shown in KC Fashion Week and Omaha Fashion Week. The christianMICHAEL design label has quickly become one of the most recognized and respected design labels in Kansas City.
- St. Louis native who has shown in Project:Design!, Missouri Style Week and just finished competing in Project Runway: Under The Gun.
- Jamal Mayers is a Canadian former professional ice hockey forward who played 15 seasons in the National Hockey League including with The St. Louis Blues. He is now designing custom suiting, ties and pocket squares. Gent! will be his first show and launch of his collection Champagne & Caviar Bespoke.
I'm also excited to attend the show because I know that quite a few of our male models at Centro Models will be walking! I work part-time for Centro Models during my week at TalentPlus, so I'm looking forward to seeing them strut their stuff.
