Mani Monday: Art Deco Red, White, & Gold

I grew up reading a LOT. Any classic novels that I could get my hands on, I devoured. I especially preferred the books dealing with nature, and animal companions. With that in mind, it's no surprise that one of my all-time favorite books is Jack London's Call of the Wild. The main character is a dog, and the story is full of drama, heroism, and revenge. It's a little intense and morbid for a child to read, but at a young age I was ravenously plowing through books and didn't notice the gloomy overtones.

So when I was on the hunt for a deep, deep red polish, and stumbled across China Glaze's "Call of the Wild," I just HAD to add it to my collection. It is dark and sultry, and looks black in most light. Since I've recently developed an addiction to nail art, and can hardly stand to leave my nails a plain color, I felt fancy enough to really go glam with this look. It's inspired directly by one of the custom sets of press-on nails that Marsha at Meero Mani Nails created for me. I have yet to wear them because I'm hoarding them for a special event... The ones that Marsha designed are very Great Gatsby-esque, and I think they deserve a nice night out on the town, but because I loved the design so much, I tried emulate them loosely in this mani.

This white polish actually comes in a bottle with a super skinny striping brush. I'm still getting the hang of it, but it makes it much easier to do fun stripe designs. I used a toothpick to do the gold dots, which is also easy. I think dotted nails are just too cute, and so simple to do with a toothpick! You should try it sometime!

What do you think of deep, dark reds? Would you rather just wear a black instead?
