Love Local: Supporting Westminster Press

If you follow me on social media, you'll know that I've been hanging out/DJing for two absolutely fantastic fellahs in Saint Louis named Tucker and Nicholas. Together, they make up Westminster Press, which is project in its darling infancy. Aiming to open a space "for all artists of oppressed identities--inclusive of women, queer folk, and people of color, and all other makers whose work currently exists in the margins of the traditional art world," Westminster Press is in the final countdown of its Kickstarter campaign

If you've known me for a while, you'll know that I too have a BFA from an art school, and have felt the struggles of trying to survive with that type of degree. You feel like you're prepared but you never really are, and trying to make your dreams come true can be pretty difficult! That's why I've been doing my best to support these two dreamers while they are on their journey to make Westminster Press into its best version possible. And this is also why I urge you to back their Kickstarter campaign and help them bring St. Louis their unique idea of "a gallery, retail consignment store, and screen printing studio in St. Louis, Missouri that will not only bring awareness to the issues affecting diverse groups but also allow these artists to profit from their own work." Heck, I know a lot of you already love consignment shops, so let's help this super cool one get on its feet!

There are so many levels you can pledge on, too. Even just $5 can go a long way if we all help out! And you'll receive some really neat thank-you goodies from Westminster Press in return, as well! My favorite option is definitely the $100 level: you receive a custom hand-sewn portrait. I had one created for my mom as her Mother's Day gift this year of her beloved Dachshund , Nina. The detail in the sewing is just too cool when you get up close!

As part of my payment for DJing at Westminster Press' recent happy hour this past Saturday, Tucker sewed me up a portrait of me DJing! I love my green hair here, and the fact that although it's abstract, you can still totally tell what I'm doing. I need to find a frame for this puppy stat!

Please, please, please consider backing my friends' Kickstarter! It would mean the world to me, and would help support Saint Louis' many communities involved in this effort.
