Makeup Monday: New Revlon Mascara

Happy Monday, loves! I have a product review for you today instead of a mani. You know I'm a sucker for pretty and tactile packaging, right? When I saw these new Revlon mascaras in Walgreens, I was immediately drawn to them! They mimic the shape of the matte lipsticks I've been loving lately, and the dueling matte-patent plastics on the tube make me oh so happy. When I received a coupon for $4 off any one of the new mascaras, I thought it was too good to be true. Something I've learned lately? If you think it's too good to be true, it most definitely is.

The first one I tried was the Dramatic Definition style. I thought long and hard about which type to pick. My natural lashes are long and mildly thick, so sometimes for an every day look, I just want a bit of darkening and definition. The applicator brush on the Dramatic Definition was super pokey and stiff, and really didn't do much of anything for my lashes. I was disappointed enough that I went back to Walgreens and exchanged it for the Ultra Volume.  As soon as I pulled the brush out of the tube I was wary once more. It's big, thick, and also quite stiff. If I'm not careful, I get transfer of mascara onto my upper lash line, and that's just not a good look. The only time I don't mind if that happens is if I've already applied a heavy smokey eye and you can't tell. The formula is only "all right." I've noticed flaking and I've also discovered lingering messiness in the morning after I've removed the mascara before bed with a makeup wipe. I'm not trying to impress anyone first thing when I wake up because I live alone, but I hate feeling like I have to clean up my face again.

I'm not willing to bother trading out for another new kind, even when I only spent half the shelf price for it. I feel like once you find your favorite mascara, it can be REALLY hard to replace. Everyone's lashes are different, and there's not room for "one size fits all" with a product! I might have to just do a post on my all-time favorite mascaras after this, don't you think?

Have you tried this new mascara? Does it work well with your lashes?
